A lot of A's fans on social media are wondering why Carlos Cortes isn't playing against a righty. This month he's cooled off, batting .233 with a .250 OBP in May. he's also started 8 of the A's 14 games. Butler is batting jus .172 this month, but his OBP is .333 in similar playing time.

The bigger obstacle for Cortes is Henry Bolte, who is playing every day in center. Moving Butler to CF on occasion was getting Cortes some looks in right. Butler also has the better glove in right. So Butler is slightly warmer, has more pop, is a better defender, and Cortes has shown tremendous ability as a pinch hitter in the past.

This is all without even mentioning the financial incentives for playing Butler.
