The wind is gusting today, with speeds of up to 33 mph expected through Monday night in Sacramento. "If the wind forecast stays as it is, flyballs to left field are going to get absolutely clobbered," Ken Arneson, chief technology officer at Weather Applied Metrics told the San Francisco Chronicle.
Balls could also be impacted by as many as 115 feet, with the wind blowing them back towards home plate. This is going to be an interesting affair, but the A's were fielding fly balls before Sunday's game to get some sort of an idea for what to expect.
Carlos Cortes, playing right field for the A's today said that this isn't really something you can prepare for, even in pregame. The A's lineup is lefty heavy, while they may have caught a break in having LHP Jeffrey Springs lined up to pitch today. With the wind coming from left field, the Giants lineup will be more righty heavy.
