A's Make Trade Official
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Athletics have acquired outfielder Nate Eaton from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Jareth Rayo, the club announced today. Additionally, six players have cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Eaton, 29, was originally drafted by Kansas City in the 21st round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Virginia Military Institute. In parts of four Major League seasons, he is batting .221 with a .294 on-base percentage and a .307 slugging percentage in 137 games. Mark Kotsay's Status as A's Manager Mentioned by John Fisher
During the introductory press conference for new president of baseball operations Taylor Smith, A's owner John Fisher also took a moment to mention Mark Kotsay, who was in attendance but off camera.
"One thing I would also like to do is introduce Mark Kotsay over there," Fisher said, "as being our manager, who I think has done a tremendous job. We have suffered from a lot of injuries. Everybody can use that excuse, of course. But for us, it's been sort of a series on some level of musical chairs for Mark to kind of use who's available to try and get some wins for us."

A's Name Taylor Smith Head of Baseball Operations
LAS VEGAS — The A's have named Taylor Smith President of Baseball Operations, placing him in charge of the Club’s baseball strategy and operations as the organization prepares for its move to Las Vegas in 2028. Smith spent the last two seasons as Senior Vice President and Assistant General Manager for the Red Sox after spending seven seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays.
During his time with the Red Sox, Smith oversaw the organization’s baseball research and development efforts, including analytics, sciences, systems, and technology. He also led the department’s collaboration with the player acquisitions, development, and baseball operations groups.

Sacramento's Chris Shastid Pacific Coast League Groundskeeper of the Year (Press Release)
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – This morning, Minor League Baseball announced Sacramento River Cats Vice President of Field Operations, Chris Shastid, as the Pacific Coast League Groundskeeper of the Year. The winners were selected using the results of surveys of league managers, players, and executives throughout the 2026 season.
In his 14th year with Sacramento, he delivered an exceptional playing surface for 156 total baseball games. That includes 75 Athletics games, 75 River Cats games, a Giants exhibition game, two Banana Ball games, and three upcoming Cosmic Baseball games.

Brian Serven Injury Update
Brian Serven was in the A's clubhouse prior to Thursday's game and the swelling on his face has gone down overnight. According to Manolo Hernandez, he's good to go the rest of the weekend, though the A's don't have him in the starting lineup tonight.
"I'm very fortunate, I don't have any broken bones, I feel very good," Serven told Hernandez.

Former A's Pitcher Thriving Overseas
Buried deep inside of this FanGraphs post is a note on Kyle Muller, who is playing in Japan this season. After being acquired by the Athletics following the 2022 season, he was the team's Opening Day starter in 2023.
"Kyle Muller is 7-7 with a 2.45 and a 2.98 FIP over 117-and-a-third innings for the Chunichi Dragons. The 28-year-old erstwhile MLB southpaw also has eight hits, including a pair of home runs, in 40 at-bats. Unlike NPB’s Pacific League, the Central League does not employ a DH."

A's-Guardians in a Rain Delay
The A's and Guardians are in a rain delay for the last road game of the season. Both teams have Monday off, if needed, and it's unlikely the game would be thrown out because Cleveland is both in the AL Central race and the AL Wild Card race. They don't have the margin to just cancel the game.
