Right-handed pitcher Jeff Hoffman hasn't performed well for the Toronto Blue Jays this season in his closing role.

Hoffman has posted a 7.59 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched across 12 appearances. He has three saves in six opportunities. He allowed one earned run in the Blue Jays' 4-2 win against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday and nearly blew the save.

Right-handed pitcher Louis Varland stepped in the final two-thirds of the ninth and clinched the win for Toronto. He has yet to allow a run this season and has fanned 19 batters in 13 innings across 12 appearances.
