After not playing since Sept. 6 because of a left knee sprain, Bichette is set to take the field in Game 1 of the World Series.

Despite not playing since Sept. 6 because of a left knee sprain, Toronto Blue Jays star Bo Bichette is in the lineup for Game 1 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night at Rogers Centre.

Bichette will hit cleanup, but there is a twist: Instead of playing shortstop, Bichette will be playing second base.

Presumably, that's to limit the wear and tear on his knee and reduce the movement. The only issue? He's never once played second base in a major league game.

    Other lineup reverberations

By playing Bichette at second base, and not designated hitter (which was also a thought), the Jays are able to get their better defensive outfield out there. Gold Glover Daulton Varsho will play centerfield while Myles Straw is in right field and Davis Schneider is in left. George Springer, no longer regarded as a strong defender, can take DH.

Evidently, the Jays felt better with Bichette in the infield, even at a new position, than with Springer in the outfield.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa is the one displaced in the lineup because of Bichette's entry.

    Other news and notes

--Because left-hander Blake Snell is on the mound for Los Angeles, manager John Schneider is going with his group of righties in the lineup. That's the reason for Straw and Schneider, as opposed to Nathan Lukes and Addison Barger.

--Trey Yesavage will make history with his Game 1 start for Toronto, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Trey Yesavage will be the first pitcher to start Game 1 of a World Series within his first 7 career appearances, combining regular season & postseason

This will be his 4th postseason start. No other pitcher has even made multiple postseason starts within his 1st 7 overall app

--Former Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston, who won the World Series with Toronto in 1992 and 1993, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
