The former World Series champion had kind words for the start first baseman

The Toronto Blue Jays are one win away from making their first World Series in a generation.

The Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners 6-2 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Sunday to set up a win-or-go-home Game 7 scheduled for 5:08 p.m. PT/8:08 p.m. ET on Monday.

Whether Toronto wins or loses Game 7 on Monday, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has put together arguably the best October in franchise history.

The All-Star first baseman, who signed a 14-year, $500 million contract extension before this season, entered Monday having scored 11 runs in 10 games and has hit three doubles and six home runs with 12 RBIs. He's slashed .462/.532/1.000 with a 1.532 OPS.

This is Guerrero's fourth postseason with the Blue Jays, and first that's expanded more than two games past the wild card-round. His OPS is nearly 1.000 higher than his previous playoff career-high of .536 that he had in 2023.

"I think with Vladdy, one of the things that gets lost is how young he actually is as a human being," Toronto designated hitter George Springer said in a pregame news conference Monday. "He cares so much about everybody around him that that's what makes him great. Whenever you get a guy like that — again, he's earned every bit of whatever he's got. He's kind of shown the world a little bit who he is as a player and what guys see in here every day. He knows what weight's on his shoulders and he's kind of embraced it. But at the same time, he'll say it all the time, he couldn't be here without all of us. And that's a cool thing. He genuinely loves this city, he loves this team, this organization. It's a special thing to have a guy like that."

Guerrero has been the face of the franchise almost since he made his major league debut in 2019 when he was 20-years-old. He's a native Canadian and was born in Montreal when his father, National Baseball Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr., was playing with the Montreal Expos.

Guerrero has had the expectations of an entire country on his shoulders since his debut. And he's risen to those expectations since he debuted.
