SEATTLE — The Toronto Blue Jays will attempt to accomplish a rare feat in the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners.
The Blue Jays dropped the first two games of the best-of-seven series by scores of 3-1 and 10-3 on Sunday and Monday, respectively. Both games came at Toronto's home stadium of Rogers Centre.
Games 3, 4 and (if-necessary) 5 will all take place at the Mariners' home field of T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
If the Blue Jays win two of the three games set to take place at T-Mobile Park, the series will return to Toronto for a Game 6 and Game 7 (if required).
Only 15 teams in MLB history have come back from down 2-0 to win a best-of-seven series — two of them in the last 20 years: the 2023 Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Championship Series against the Philadelphia Phillies and the 2020 Los Angeles Dodgers against the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS. Both series went to seven games.
Toronto has had success at T-Mobile Park in recent years. From 2023-25, the Blue Jays are 6-3 in games played at Seattle's home stadium. Toronto also won the season series against the M's 4-2 in '24 and '25.
Despite the Blue Jays' success against the Mariners at the latter's home stadium, the former isn't resting on that past success.
"It's tough to look back a while ago," Toronto manager John Schneider said in a news conference Tuesday. "Kind of two different teams at two different times. But, said it all along, I like our chances any day, anywhere against anyone. I think off-day was good for us (Tuesday) to kind of reset and I think the guys are gonna come out knowing exactly what they have to do — not that we didn't in the first two games. It's a seven-game series, and I think they're excited to play here (Wednesday)."
Game 3 of the American League Championship Series is scheduled for 5:08 p.m. PT/8:08 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Shane Bieber will start for the Blue Jays and George Kirby will start for Seattle.
