The Toronto Blue Jays are heading to the World Series, and Springer's blast is a major reason why.

Toronto Blue Jays star George Springer re-wrote the history books on Monday night when his seventh inning home run helped send the Jays to the World Series for the first time since 1993.

Per Sportsnet Stats on social media:

2nd player in MLB history to hit a go-ahead, 3-run Home Run in the 7th inning or later of a Game 7

    The situation

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Blue Jays trailed 3-1. The No. 7 hitter, Addison Barger, walked against Bryan Woo to start the inning. Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, the No. 8 hitter, singled on an 0-2 pitch.

Andres Gimenez executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third with one out, setting the stage for Springer against relief pitcher Eduard Bazardo.

    Playoff springer

The World Series MVP for the Houston Astros in 2017, Springer has turned into a playoff hero repeatedly. He's played in 17 different playoff series over eight different years, hitting .264 with 23 home runs and 47 RBIs. He's got a .343 career on-base percentage in the playoffs and an .883 OPS. These playoffs alone he has four home runs and nine RBIs in 11 games.

His teams have gone 11-6 in his playoff career, and he'll look for his second ring this October.

    About the World Series

--The Dodgers are looking for their second straight World Series title. They are hoping to become the first repeat champions since the 1999-2000 New York Yankees.

--The Dodgers have named Blake Snell as their starting pitcher for Game 1. He's a two-time Cy Young champion. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will pitch in Game 2.

--First pitch on Friday night is set for 8:08 p.m. ET

    About the Jays

--Toronto has not named a starting pitcher yet for Game 1. Kevin Gausman, who started Game 1 of the ALDS and ALCS, was used for one inning of relief in Game 7 on Monday after starting in Game 5 on Friday. If he is unable to get the ball, perhaps Trey Yesavage, who started on Sunday in Game 6, could earn the start.

Max Scherzer is also an option on more than a week of rest.
