The Toronto Blue Jays have made multiple significant roster moves in advance of Friday's World Series opener at Rogers Centre.
As noted by Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, the Jays have added infielders Bo Bichette and Ty France, while dropping outfielder Joey Loperfido and pitcher Yariel Rodriguez.
Let's start with the additions:
Getting Bichette back is a huge addition for Toronto, though it's unclear exactly how he'll factor into things in this series. He hasn't played since Sept. 6 because of a left knee sprain. Will he be able to start? Will he be relegated to pinch-hitting duty? Can he play shortstop, or is he a designated hitter only?
All those things will bear out over the next week or so, but it's a big potential boon to Toronto's offense. Bichette hit .311 this season with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs. He posted a 129 OPS+ and had 181 hits for the year.

Acquired by the Blue Jays at the trade deadline from the Minnesota Twins, France hasn't played since Sept. 21 because of an oblique issue. He hit .257 for the year but .277 in 37 games with the Blue Jays. A good contact hitter in a contact-driven lineup, he had seven homers for the entire season but is a good bat off the bench.
He won't supplant Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in any non-injury scenario, but he was a Gold Glove nominee at first base.
Signed to a four-year deal with a fifth-year option before the 2024 season, Rodriguez was sent to the bullpen this season. He had a good year there, going 3-2 with a 3.08 ERA in 66 games (73.0 innings), but he's struggled in the postseason, giving up three earned runs in just 2.2 innings. He allowed two home runs in the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners.

Acquired from the Houston Astros during the 2024 season for left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, Loperfido provides some speed that will no longer be on the roster. He was added to the ALCS roster because of the injury to Anthony Santander, and by keeping France over him, Toronto is down speed - and an additional outfielder.
If Bichette has to DH, that would force George Springer to the outfield regularly.
Game 1 of the World Series is Friday night at 8:08 pm. ET. Trey Yesavage pitches for Toronto against Blake Snell.
