A piece of baseball history could be closer to coming to St. Louis.

Over the weekend, city officials shared a vision with locals on ways to redevelop six neighborhoods in the northern part of St. Louis near the new National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency campus. Proposals include the addition of things such as an elevated rail trail and a Negro Leagues baseball museum as part of what is being called Project Connect.

A full plan, totaling nearly 1,200 pages, outlines potential improvements that include redeveloping the historic Jeff-Vander-Lou building into the museum.

The overall Project Connect plan has been in the works for years. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, in a 2022 article, said the museum would be affiliated with the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City.

The project, then estimated to cost $18 million, would pay tribute to the St. Louis Stars of the Negro League and to Blacks who played in the city.

The Stars existed from 1922 to 1931, according to Baseball Reference.

Baseball has been part of the fabric of St. Louis since 1882 with the Browns, with the Cardinals following them in 1900.
