The Chicago Cubs avoided arbitration on three different players on Wednesday afternoon. The Cubs agreed to new contracts with left-hander Justin Steele, right-hander Javier Assad, and newcomer Edward Cabrera.

Steele received $6.775 million for the 2026 season, Assad will earn $1.8 million this upcoming season, and Cabrera will get $4.45 million.

The Cubs did a nice job taking care of business with all three pitchers, resulting in the two sides avoiding arbitration. It's a good thing the front office isn't going to arbitration with Cabrera. Getting off on the wrong foot would not have been good for either side.
