It's been a few days, but I'm still so puzzled at the Cubs' decision to decline Shota Imanaga's option. Over the next three years, $53 million TOTAL ($17 million-plus annually) is a steal for the All-Star caliber pitcher that Shota has been. Sure, he was a little less effective this year than last, but the velocity remained similar and he's still a reliable option that a contending team like the Cubs needs.

After having the best season in early a decade and coming one game away from the NLCS, the Cubs are just going to get rid of one of their top pitchers and fan favorites to save a little cash? Maybe I'm missing something, and there's still a chance Chicago resigns him to a larger contract, but I feel like it would be a big mistake to let him walk out the door.
