Matthew Boyd is coming off a career year on the mound in 2025. He finished with a 3.21 ERA and 154 strikeouts across 179 2/3 innings pitched. Those 179 2/3 innings pitched were his most in a season since 2019.
However, all Cubs fans saw Boyd gas out toward the end of the 2025 season. He had a 5.16 ERA across his final 11 starts of the regular season and also struggled to find consistency on the mound in the postseason.
With the 2026 World Baseball Classic happening in March, that means Boyd will start the season a bit earlier than most other pitchers.
Is that a bad thing for a pitcher who has only pitched over 100 innings once since 2020? He could gas out earlier during the 2026 season, and his overall numbers could tank.
