Former Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward has officially retired from baseball after 16 MLB seasons. He played in 34 games for the San Diego Padres last year.
Heyward retires with 1,575 career hits and 186 career home runs. He won five Gold Glove awards and, of course, was a World Series champion with the 2016 Cubs.
He may have never lived up to the value of his contract overall, but he did get better as his Cubs career went on. And Jason Heyward will always be a Chicago sports legend for helping the Cubs win that World Series in his famous rain delay speech. Congrats to him on a great career!
