With the Chicago Cubs signing Alex Bregman earlier this month, Matt Shaw will be in more of a utility role throughout the 2026 season. That could mean seeing time at third base, second base, shortstop, and the outfield.
The second-year infielder is already putting in the work in Arizona, as he was seen taking infield practice at second base on Wednesday.
Despite likely having more of a reserve role this season, Shaw is looking to make an impact all around the diamond. He should see some opportunities at second base if Dansby Swanson or Nico Hoerner need a day off.
