THE FUTURE OF CHICAGO
Always love seeing the young stars of Chicago support each other. Welcome to the crew, Caleb Wilson!

Hoby Milner DFA'd
The Cubs have designated LHP Hoby Milner for assignment.
An interesting move, because he hasn't been bad this year. Milner posted a 3.53 ERA across 35.2 IP for the team. Went on the IL in June after having surgery for appendicitis.

Zeferjahn deal off to a bad start
This Ryan Zeferjahn trade really hasn't aged well for the Chicago Cubs thus far. He gave up the walk-off single to Leo Rivas on Friday night and in seven appearances with the Cubs now has a 7.50 ERA with a WHIP at 2.17.
Moises Ballesteros hasn't been very good with the Los Angeles Angels either, but there's obviously some future potential there for what could turn into a really productive bat.

Happy Birthday, Craig Counsell!
Today is Craig Counsell's 56th birthday.
He has a .551 winning percentage since taking over as Cubs manger and it on pace for his 2nd straight season of 90+ wins and a playoff berth.

Trey Mancini retires
Former Chicago Cubs first baseman Trey Mancini announced his retirement after eight MLB seasons.
It was encouraging to see Mancini resurface in Major League Baseball in 2026. He played 79 games for the Cubs in 2023 and hit four home runs.

Jon Berti retires
Former Chicago Cubs utility man Jon Berti announced his retirement from Major League Baseball this week.
Berti played in 51 games for the 2025 Cubs and had an eight-year MLB career that was highlighted by a 41-stolen-base season with the 2022 Miami Marlins. He led baseball in stolen bases that season.

Happy birthday, Cade Horton!
Happy 25th birthday to Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Cade Horton, a very much missed piece of this 2026 team.
It will be really exciting when the Cubs eventually get Cade Horton back. His 12-4 record and 2.66 ERA at the start of his MLB career showed future Cy Young upside.

Cubs claim Gabriel Arias
The Cubs have claimed infielder Gabriel Arias off waivers from the New York Mets.
He was previously with the Cleveland Guardians and most recently with the Mets after a series of DFAs. Arias does not have minor league options and will be added to the active roster soon.

PCA joins elite company
After his walk-off home run clinched another 30-30 season for Pete Crow-Armstrong on Monday night, he becomes the fourth center fielder in MLB history to go 30-30 in multiple seasons, joining Julio Rodriguez, Ron Gant, and Willie Mays. Some pretty elite company.

Ethan Conrad gets promoted
Ethan Conrad was a first-round pick by the Chicago Cubs in the 2025 MLB draft, selected 17th overall. He's been in the Arizona Complex League and Low-A Myrtle Beach for all of 2026, and has posted a .815 OPS over 34 games and 127 at-bats.
The Cubs are now promoting Conrad to High-A South Bend, making that team even more exciting to watch. Conrad is the No. 3 prospect in the Cubs organization.
