By coming in second in Rookie of the Year voting, Cubs starter Cade Horton accumulated a full year of service time. This means the Cubs could theoretically lose him to free agency a year earlier than previously.

This shouldn't matter, though, if the Cubs handle things correctly. There's no reason Horton shouldn't be extended, and there's no reason it shouldn't come soon. If you aren't going to spend big money on the free agent market, you have to lock up your guys.

He's also not a Boras client, which makes an extension possible. Make it happen.
