The Seattle Mariners continued their winning ways on Thursday night, defeating the Colorado Rockies 6-2 at T-Mobile Park.
The Mariners moved to 90-69 on the season, wrapping up their 90-win season in the last five years. They've also won 17 of their last 18 games and have won the American League West for the first time since 2001.
The Seattle Seahawks also won on Thursday night, beating the Arizona Cardinals 23-20 thanks to a late Jason Myers kick. The Seahawks are 3-1 and in second place in the NFC West.
Together, the two franchises have made never-before-seen history, as noted by @OptaSTATS:
The @Mariners (17-1) and @Seahawks (3-1) are a combined 20-2 over the past 20 days. It's the first time ever an MLB team and an NFL team from the same metro area combined to win 20+ games in 20 days with each team contributing multiple wins (reg or post).
The Seahawks would be 4-0 if not for a slip-up against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, and the Mariners would have won 18 straight if not for a slip-up last Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals.
Both teams have played excellent ball of late, with the Mariners certainly in the mix to win the World Series, and the Seahawks in the mix to get back to the playoffs, which they missed in 2024 despite winning 10 games.
The Mariners will kick off the final series of the regular season on Friday night when they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers at T-Mobile Park. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. PT as George Kirby takes the mound.
Having already clinched the first-round bye, the Mariners have an outside chance at the No. 1 seed in the American League playoffs. They trail both the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays by one game, though both teams have the tiebreaker over Seattle.
As for the Seahawks? They'll be off this Sunday before resuming play on Sunday, Oct. 5. They'll be at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Mariners will have a playoff game at T-Mobile Park that same day, making for an exciting day in the city.
