Today is all about opportunity for the Miami Marlins.
Fans are getting their first real look at Deyvison De Los Santos at the big-league level, and there is real intrigue behind this call-up. This is not just another depth move. This is a player who once led all of minor league baseball in power.
Back in 2024, De Los Santos crushed 40 home runs and drove in 120 RBI, putting himself firmly on the map before the Marlins acquired him from the Diamondbacks in the A.J. Puk trade. That kind of raw power is something Miami has been searching for, especially in the middle of the lineup.
The question now is whether that power can translate.
Last season at Triple-A Jacksonville, the numbers took a step back. De Los Santos hit .241 with a .311 on-base percentage, adding 12 home runs and 54 RBI over 107 games. The production was solid, but not nearly as dominant as it was in his breakout year.
Still, power like his does not just disappear. And with Christopher Morel sidelined, the Marlins suddenly have a reason to see what they really have.
This is what rebuilding and roster turnover can create. Not just uncertainty, but opportunity. De Los Santos is stepping into a moment where one good week could change his trajectory entirely.
The tools are there. The opportunity is here. Now it comes down to execution.
