On the Marlins' "Hot Stove Show" on Tuesday, catcher Liam Hicks talked about having the jitters on New Year’s Eve.
No, not about spending a second season in Miami. But about popping the question to his girlfriend.
“I was nervous, for sure,” Hicks said. “I was hitting earlier that day, and it was tough to pay attention, tough to lock in.”
Hicks said he had been in Jupiter, Florida, and told his plus-one they would be “going to get drinks with the Simpsons.”
No, not Homer and Marge. Rather Marlins pitcher Josh Simpson and his wife, Kate.
Hicks said he got an assist from a photographer, who helped set the scene.
“She set up some roses, white roses on the beach,” he said. “Got some champagne glasses there. So it was great. We got it all on video, got some really good pictures. She said, ‘Yes.’
"Took some convincing. But, yeah, it was all good.”
