
Miami Marlins minor league right-handed pitcher Jake Smith retired from baseball on Friday after five appearances in Double-A Pensacola. Smith left the Blue Wahoos after posting a 10.80 ERA (6ER) through five innings. Smith was selected in the sixth round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels out of the University of Miami. He leaves with a 9-15 record, a 5.73 ERA, and 256 strikeouts in 226.1 innings through 143 career games. The Blue Wahoos (6-12) call up right-handed pitcher Luis Moreno from extended spring training.
