Do you think Deyvison De Los Santos can make an impact right away for Miami?
The Miami Marlins are turning to one of their more intriguing young power bats.
According to Fish On First’s Kevin Barral, the Marlins are promoting first baseman Deyvison De Los Santos after Christopher Morel was scratched from Friday’s lineup with a left oblique strain. Morel is set to undergo imaging on Saturday, but even minor oblique injuries can sideline hitters for at least a short stretch, so this is a situation worth watching closely.
That opens the door for De Los Santos to get his first big-league chance. The 22-year-old came to Miami from the Diamondbacks in the A.J. Puk trade back in 2024 and has been on the organization’s radar ever since because of his raw power. He crushed 28 home runs in just 87 games before that trade, showing why the Marlins viewed him as a worthwhile upside play.
Things slowed down once he joined Miami’s system, and he never fully found his rhythm at Triple-A Jacksonville last season. Still, this is the kind of move that gives the Marlins a chance to see whether De Los Santos can provide some thump while Morel is sidelined.
For now, Miami may continue to get creative defensively. Connor Norby already made his first career start at first base on Opening Day, and players like Graham Pauley and Javier Sanoja could also see expanded roles depending on how long Morel is out.
De Los Santos may not arrive with guarantees, but he does arrive with opportunity. And for a Marlins team already dealing with early injury issues, that opportunity suddenly feels important.
