After the Miami Marlins signed right-handed relief pitcher Pete Fairbanks in free agency, one of the exciting factors was his teaming up with righty reliever Tyler Phillips.

Both are known as intense characters on the mound. And there's history there, as they both played in the Texas Rangers' minor-league system, with the Down East Wood Ducks in 2019.

Appearing on MLB Network's Hot Stove Show on Jan. 6, Fairbanks said Phillips didn't use to slap himself before entering a game. Phillips' ritual slap grew popular last season. It should be fun seeing them share a locker room.
