Miami Marlins star Kyler Stowers returned to the diamond for the first game of his minor league rehab assignment on Friday, going 0-for-3 while playing left field for six innings during Triple-A Jacksonville’s 4-2 loss against Norfolk.

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough told MLB.com before Miami’s 2-0 loss against the Detroit Tigers that Stowers will be in the minor leagues to not only prove that he’s healthy enough to return but to be built up.

“He basically missed all of Spring Training,” McCullough said. “So he'll get enough games where he's in a good spot, both physically and how he feels with his swing.”
