
Oneil Cruz hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the host Houston Astros 5-2 in a Grapefruit League game that was shortened to 5 ½ because of rain in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The center fielder’s blast broke a scoreless tie. Cruz has had a hit in all five spring training games, going 7 for 13 with one double, one homer and three stolen bases.
Designated hitter Marcell Ozuna went 2 for 3 as the Pirates raised their record to 7-2.
Braxton Ashcraft started and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit. Bubba Chandler (1-1) was the winning pitcher, and Derek Diamond registered his first save.
