The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired minor-league third baseman Francisco Loreto from the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday in a trade for relief pitcher Chase Shugart.

Loreto, an 18-year-old Venezuelan hit .237/.332/.396 with five home runs in 47 games in the Florida Complex League last season. Shugart, who was recently designated for assignment, pitched in 35 games for the Pirates last year, going 4-3 with a 3.40 ERA.
