The Pittsburgh Pirates made a late-night Thursday trade, sending catcher Joey Bart to the Atlanta Braves for right-handed relief pitcher Hunter Stratton.
The Pirates optioned Stratton to Triple-A Indianapolis. The 29-year-old was Pittsburgh's 16th-round draft pick in 2019 and made his major-league debut with the Pirates in 2023.
Stratton made one appearance for the Braves this season when he pitched one scoreless inning on May 2 against the Colorado Rockies. Atlanta designated Stratton for assignment on Monday.
Bart was on a rehab assignment with Indianapolis while recovering from a left foot infection. In 21 games this season with the Pirates, Bart hit .259/.290/.379 with two home runs.
