It seems like there's still some lingering feelings between the Boston Red Sox's top brass over how the Rafael Devers saga ended last season.

Red Sox chairman Tom Werner called Devers' unwillingness to play first base after a season-ending injury suffered by Triston Casas "extremely discouraging," and said "just pick up a glove," in reference to Devers.

Last year, Devers was originally asked by the team to move to designated hitter from third base in the spring. After some public push-back from Devers, he acquiesced. Devers again publicly rejected the notion of going back to first base after Casas' injury.

Boston traded Devers, the lone player remaining on the roster from the team's last World Series championship in 2018, to the San Francisco Giants on June 15, 2025.
