I teased this in my piece on the Red Sox Gold Glove winners last night.

Why in the name of God would you have an awards presentation on a Sunday night at 8:30 p.m., running up against Sunday Night Football, just one day after arguably the greatest baseball game ever played?

Was there a single modicum of buzz for the Gold Glove Awards? Any chatter online at all?

There's always going to be chatter among Baseball Twitter on this type of stuff, but that's not the point of having awards. You give out these honors to help create conversation among the casual fans. Where was the lead up on social media with awesome highlight catches? Where was the sick intro package narrated by Ken Griffey Jr. or Ozzie Smith? Does Major League Baseball even realize this thing happened last night? Was I one of the 50 people watching?

Why wouldn't you have this thing on a night where there's no football competition? At the very least, have it on Monday night where you're not asking sports fans who just spent 12 hours straight of watching football to also now care about your thing.

One thing football does better than any other sport is eventizing their product. And I know the nature of baseball's schedule doesn't really allow for that. But awards presentations like this one are their opportunities to do so, and they almost always strikeout.
