Thirteen years ago, in the wake of the bombing that killed three people and injured at least 500 more, Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz figuratively wrapped the city in his big arms and gave it the hug it needed.

Days after the attack, which occurred at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon and was ruled an act of domestic terrorism, the Red Sox returned to Fenway Park wearing jerseys that said "Boston" and not "Red Sox" across the chest.

"All right. All right, Boston," Big Papi said as he addressed the crowd from the field pregame on that 2013 day. "This jersey that we wear today, it doesn't say Red Sox. It says Boston. ... This is our (expletive) city and nobody is going to dictate our freedom. Stay strong."

And Monday the Red Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 8-6 to win the traditional morning Boston Marathon day game, wearing the Boston jersey.

The Red Sox never have forgotten. They remain Boston Strong.
