The 23-year-old right fielder knocked in five RBI during the Kansas City Royals' 7-6 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
The Kansas City Royals entered Friday's opener against the Los Angeles Angels looking to get a three-game sweep behind them from the back-to-back defending World Series champion Dodgers roughly 31 miles up the I-5 freeway.
The Royals did just that with a 7-6 win at Angel Stadium.
Jac Caglianone was instrumental in the team's efforts as he had a career night at the plate, going 3-for-4 and knocking in five RBI.
While Michael Massey would be the first to get things started for the Royals with a solo home run to right field in the second inning, Caglianone quickly heated up in the third, driving in Kyle Isbel and Carter Jensen with an RBI single to increase Kansas City's lead to 3-0.
The Angels refused to give in though, erupting for four runs that same inning as Nolan Schanuel brought home Denzer Guzmán, Wade Meckler and Tyler Heineman with an RBI double to tie the game while an RBI single by Zach Neto turned the game in favor of L.A.
Caglianone responded with a two-run blast to right center in the fifth, reclaiming the lead for the Royals. He would also plate another run in the seventh with an RBI single to tie the matchup once again after the Angels crept back ahead when Schanuel drove in another run and Josh Lowe launched a homer of his own.
Caglianone would also make Neto pay for a costly throwing error, reaching second base and eventually coming in to score the game-sealing run off a clutch RBI single by Massey.
With the win, he has batted .273 while recording an .820 OPS and leading Kansas City with 58 RBI and 22 home runs. Meanwhile, the Royals improved to 50-73 overall while still ranking fifth in the AL Central.
Besides Friday, Caglianone had a similar performance last Saturday against the Chicago Cubs, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish and launching two home runs as Kansas City took a 6-3 victory in front of the Kauffman Stadium faithful.
He has credited his recent offensive surge to him simplifying his swing and working to adjust to pitchers who were attacking him down and away.
"I just want to keep my weight back," Caglianone said, according to MLB.com. "Trying to see it for as long as I possibly can. I feel like those ones down and away I was really susceptible to. So, now I'm just trying to get rid of that. Just trying to be as simple as possible with it."
Furthermore, Caglianone highlighted that he's been focused on the game itself more than the numbers he puts up.
"I'm pretty big on just kind of taking it day by day," he said. "I'm going to wake up tomorrow, none of this matters. So, I've got to reset, I've got to restart. I try not to think about it. I just want to win, so I'll do whatever I can to do that."
He will have another opportunity to contribute tonight at 9:38 p.m. EDT as he faces off against Angels left-hander Reid Detmers who gathered interest from contending clubs near the MLB trade deadline, but remained with L.A. per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
