I noticed that Brandon Woodruff became a free agent for the first time, having spent his entire career with the Brewers up to this point. That’s definitely someone I’d like to see the Tigers inquire about. The pitching market can be an extraordinary thing, and you obviously don’t want to overpay by too much. However, Woodruff is a player still rehabbing from an injury who has made multiple All-Star teams in the past and pitched well down the stretch for Milwaukee a year ago.
He’s entering his age-33 season and has a history of injuries, but his career ERA is tremendous at 3.10, and there’s still a heavy amount of swing and miss in his game. It doesn’t seem like his stuff is that diminished. I hope that because he only pitched 64.2 innings last year, he’ll be looking for a one-year prove-it deal from somebody. Hopefully, Detroit can be the team that gives him that.
