It’s been an emotional week for Tiger fans. Justin Verlander is officially home. It’s been so great to see so much optimism all over social media this week. Verlander was Mr. Tiger for an entire generation, and it’s great to see him back. I’ve never stopped watching highlights of Verlander during his heyday in Detroit, but this week, they have hit a little bit different.

In the grand scheme of things, 2011 doesn’t feel that long ago, but it was definitely a very different era when it comes to how pitchers are evaluated nowadays. Check out this footage. 6-0 game, and Verlander is pitching in the eighth inning with runners on second and third and nobody else. This is a master emptying the tank. They just don’t make them like they used to.
