I’m obviously going to be a little bit biased because he pitches for my team, but I think that the WBC is really great prep for players who desire to pitch in high-leverage situations during the season. Mike Trout famously said that the World Baseball Classic games were the closest he had come to a playoff atmosphere in a long time. I bring this up because Vest has so far been one of the best postseason relievers ever in his time with the Tigers. I know that there are a lot of great pitchers on this roster. Tarik Skubal notably committed to pitch for team USA a while back, but if I’m manager Mark DeRosa, I’d seriously look at the numbers and consider sliding Vest into that final spot. We’re still a few weeks away, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that we see him on the official roster. It would be a great opportunity.
