Yankees Roundtable, Ep. 6: Did Trent Grisham Just Mess Things Up? cover image

Matthew Schmidt and Jon Conahan of New York Yankees Roundtable discuss whether or not Trent Grisham just ruined the Yankees' offseason and more in the newest episode of the Yankees Roundtable Podcast.

Trent Grisham surprised a whole lot of people when he accepted the New York Yankees' qualifying offer for 2026. Now, he will be making $22 million next season, which could complicate things for the Yankees the remainder of the offseason.

Remember: Cody Bellinger is a free agent, and New York may also be planning a pursuit of Kyle Tucker, but that may have just become more difficult.

So did Grisham's decision just subvert the Yankees' offseason plans?

Matthew Schmidt and Jon Conahan discuss that and more in the newest episode of the Yankees Roundtable podcast.

The topics are as follows:

  • How should Yankees fans feel about Grisham accepting the qualifying offer? Is he now vastly overpaid at $22 million? Was his market not as robust as everyone thought? And is it possible that the impending lockout played a factor in Grisham taking one-year deal?
  • What does this mean for Bellinger and Tucker? Are the Yankees just going to run back the same outfield from last year by re-signing Bellinger and rolling with him, Grisham and Aaron Judge? Is there now a major risk that Bellinger signs elsewhere? And is it possible New York was never really all that interested in Tucker to begin with?
  • Let's say the Yankees bring back Bellinger. Does that mean at least one of Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones are getting traded? If so, who is more likely to be dealt? Is it possible New York is souring on Dominguez? Jones is 24 years old and turns 25 in May, so the clock is ticking on the top prospect. Will we see either seriously contributing on the big-league roster in 2026?
  • Paul Skenes has doubled down on his push back against comments from an anonymous Pittsburgh Pirates teammate that he wants to go to the Yankees. Skenes is saying that it's obviously not true, but are we to believe Skenes? Does Skenes really want to stay in Pittsburgh? And do the Yanks really have any chance of trading for him anytime soon?
  • The Minnesota Twins have a couple of very intriguing pitchers in Joe Ryan and Pablo Lopez who could be up for trade. Should the Yankees make a push for one of them, and what should they be willing to give up for either player? Ryan and Lopez are both frontline arms, and with New York needing another starter, the Yankees may place a call to Minnesota to see what it would take to pry Ryan or Lopez away.
