The Chicago Bulls are in a rare-for-them situation with this upcoming NBA Draft Lottery, and they simply can't afford to squander it. In simpler terms: beggars can't be choosers, or perhaps more accurately: beggars can't open themselves up to the possibility of being choosers. There is no easy answer atop the 2026 NBA Draft, but if guard Darryn Peterson--who has been the projected No. 1 pick for most of the draft cycle--comes out of evaluations as Chicago's top prospect, I think it would be wise for them to take him, even amid the concerns about his availability.

At this stage of the rebuild (early) the Bulls need to be focused on stacking talent, and hopefully finding players who can act as the engine of an offense or backbone of a defense. Peterson, a 6-foot-6 guard averaging 19.7 PPG and shooting over 40% from 3-point range, while maintaining a healthy free throw rate, has all the makings of a successful scorer at the NBA level. Questions about his durability and attitude may persist if he doesn't suit up throughout all of March Madness, but I believe the potential for Peterson to be a franchise star is too high for the Bulls to pass up if they get the No .1 pick.
