The Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons are set to tip off Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series at Rocket Arena! I'll be live updating this page throughout the game. Please comment with your thoughts throughout.
The Cavs have a clean injury report, as Thomas Bryant is able to play. Caris LeVert is active, but Kevin Huerter is still dealing with an adductor injury and will miss the game.
FIRST QUARTER
James Harden has 11 of the Cavs' first 13 points. Two catch-shoots from distance, one on the pull-up. A steal. It's only been four minutes. Cleveland up 13-5.
Cavs have also turned Detroit over three times for eight points already.
Best start for the Cavs first five this series, and maybe since Game 1 of the Raptors matchup.
Two early fouls on Ausar Thompson again.
Caris LeVert with the immediate impact. A pull-up middie, a drive-and-corner kick to Tobias Harris, and a three in transition after a stop. Cavs up 18-15 with 5:18 left in the first quarter.
Dennis Schroder, Max Strus, and Jaylon Tyson in for Dean Wade, Donovan Mitchell, and Evan Mobley as the opening sub.
Mitchell and Mobley back in for Jarrett Allen and James Harden.
Pistons got the Cavs in a big-time drought once the second unit came in playing next to Tobias Harris. Caris LeVert had an outstanding two-way stint. It's 24-21 Detroit after one.
END 1Q: Pistons 24, Cavs 21
DET: LeVert 8p, 2a, 1r. Harris 7p, 4r, 1a. Cunningham 5p, 2a, 1r.
CLE: Harden 11p, 2a, 2stl. Mobley 4p, 2r, 2stl, 1a. Allen 3p, 1r.
SECOND QUARTER
Sam Merrill sees his first action of the night with Mitchell, Tyson, Strus, and Mobley.
A Max Strus dunk following Ausar Thompson losing the ball makes up for his alley-oop misfire to Evan Mobley, then a Sam Merrill three from James Harden after a Cavs stop puts Cleveland back on top 32-31 about three minutes into the second.
Tobias Harris missed that last dunk attempt, but he is having one hell of a series and postseason. Pistons up 42-38 after Isaiah Stewart's offensive board and dunk/throw-in. Five minutes until half.
Donovan Mitchell scored his first point at the free-throw line at 4:18, then hit his first field goal a couple possessions later on a left corner three. Tough shooting half for him on 1-of-8.
Harden and Mobley have done a great job of playmaking for their teammates. They've just got to return the favor.
Vert Gon' Vert. Caris has 17 on 7-of-12 from the field. A couple of assists and rebounds. Stellar defense. What a job.
HALF: Pistons 56, Cavs 52
DET: LeVert 17p, 2r, 2a, blk. Harris 14p, 9r, 3a, 2stl. Cunningham 12p, 5a, 1r. Duren 6p, 2r, 2stl.
CLE: Harden 15p, 6a, 2stl, blk. Mobley 11p, 2a, 2blk, 2stl. Merrill 6p, 2a, 1r. Allen 5p, 3r, blk. Strus 5p, 2r, 2stl.
THIRD QUARTER
That's an 8-0 Donovan Mitchell run to open the second half. Started on a cutting floater from James Harden, then an and-one on a drive onto Cade Cunningham, followed up by a James Harden swing to the left wing. Cavs up 60-56 just 1:36 into it.
The Pistons have yet to score almost four minutes into the third quarter. Evan Mobley is having a night facilitating. James Harden is playmaking and knocking down generated threes. Donovan Mitchell is up to 15 points. Cavs lead it 68-56 just like that.
J.B. Bickerstaff turning to Paul Reed again, as well as Caris LeVert and Daniss Jenkins to go with Cunningham and Harris.
Pistons trying to quell the absolute surge the Cavs put on out of the locker room. BBall Paul and Vert are leading their charge. Cleveland giving Don a breather here after a sensational 21-point stretch. It's 80-68 with 3:12 left in the third.
This is the kind of Harden-Mitchell balance the Cavs have been looking for in the playoffs. It happened in the box score against the Raptors, sure, but this usage differential is the sweet spot.
END 3Q: Cavs 90, Pistons 77
DET: LeVert 22p, 3r, 3a, blk, stl. Harris 14p, 8r, 5a, 2stl. Reed 13p, 2r, 1a. Cunningham 12p, 5a, 1r.
CLE: Harden 24p, 11a, 2stl, blk. Mitchell 25p, 3r, 2a, stl. Mobley 13p, 4a, 4blk, 3r, 3stl. Allen 9p, 4r, 2blk.
FOURTH QUARTER
Evan Mobley's having a 5x5 type of impact.
Cade Cunningham looks like he's wearing down.
Pistons making their last run at it here in the fourth. Jalen Duren got Jarrett Allen on an iso, and then Cade Cunningham hit a transition trey after seemingly all of Detroit's team stripped JA. Cavs up 100-86 with 6:56 left in regulation.
Don is not playing around.
