The Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons are set to tip off Game 6 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series at Little Caesars Arena! I'll be live updating this page throughout the game. Please comment with your thoughts throughout.
The Cavs have a clean injury report. Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, and Kevin Huerter will all give it a go for the Pistons.
Starters:
Pistons - Cunningham, Jenkins, Thompson, Harris, Duren
Cavs - Harden, Mitchell, Wade, Mobley, Allen
FIRST QUARTER
Pistons focusing on getting into the Cavs; paint early. James Harden has five points and two boards. Donovan Mitchell's got an early trey ball. It's tied at 12 midway through one.
Sam Merrill, Max Strus, and Dennis Schroder are the first subs in.
Jalen Duren's noticeably more attack-oriented off the bounce. More conviction and activity on the glass.
Officials letting 'em play rugby out there. Cavs playing with conviction and focus, though. Can't say enough good things about Evan Mobley in this series. Don committed on a breakaway after a stop, too, in the open floor. Cleveland up 23-17 with 2:27 left in the first.
Cavs have turned it over seven times, luckily not all of them have been of the live-ball sort.
Cavs subbed in JA for Schroder with 2.2 seconds because every possession matters. But Daniss Jenkins rebounded Jalen Duren's miss anyways. Max Strus picked up his second foul, too. Detroit up 27-25 after the opening frame.
END 1Q: Pistons 27, Cavs 25
DET: Thompson 5p, 3stl, 2r, 2a. Cunningham 5p, 2a. Duren 4p, 4r. LeVert 6p.
CLE: Mobley 7p, 3r, 1a, blk. Mitchell/Harden 7p, 1r. Allen 4p, 1r.
SECOND QUARTER
The BBall Paul minutes have been good once again for Detroit. Cavs reserves getting called for fouls and in trouble already with multiple on Strus and Merrill.
Pistons applying pressure 94 feet. James Harden gets bumped by Cade Cunningham and can't bounce it to Dean Wade for help. Detroit capitalizes with a Cade triple off its sixth offensive board of the night. Cavs trailing 38-27 a few minutes into the second.
Ausar Thompson bowls through Sam Merrill, who was trying to set a screen for Donovan Mitchell. Ausar was whistled for a foul. He stepped over Sam after the fact, and Don wasn't having it. It's being reviewed.
Cavs fans at Rocket Arena are incensed after seeing that Ausar's hands were on Merrill's neck as he pushed him down.
Zach Zarba announces that Ausar Thompson's foul is a Flagrant 1.
That didn't feel like a basketball game for about 2-3 minutes of game time, but back to the regularly scheduled programming. Sam Merrill has scored five minutes since Ausar's shove. Cavs trim the Detroit lead to 41-34 with 6:36 until half.
Cade Cunningham's shot-making in this half is extra impressive. Those threes have NOT been easy. Couple 9-1-1s.
Jalen Duren's isos are going much better tonight than the games leading up to this point. He's shown up.
Cavs have ripped the momentum right back with this close to the half. It's all been defense. Stealing it from Cunningham, block by Jarrett Allen. Pistons still lead it by three, but that was an electric finish.
HALF: Pistons 54, Cavs 51
DET: Cunningham 16p, 5a, 1r. Thompson 8p, 5r, 4stl, 2a. Duren 9p, 6r, blk. LeVert 8p, 1a, stl.
CLE: Mitchell 13p, 2r, 2a, stl. Mobley 9p, 3r, 2a, blk. Allen 8p, 3r, 1a, blk, stl. Harden 7p, 4r, 2a, 2stl. Strus 6p, 3r.
THIRD QUARTER
This one is U-G-L-Y. Pistons started on a 14-3 run, but Cavs are in the bonus with 5:24 left in the third, down only 68-61. Cade Cunningham's last miss was front rim, too, so maybe that endurance is waning.
BBall Paul with one of the coolest and-ones of the playoffs. Like when a putt drops.
Good stretch from Sam Merrill there, with a three-point answer to Duncan Robinson and a swift drive to the lane in traffic.
The Pistons went to BBall Paul that whole quarter, and he made the Cavs pay on the interior. Cleveland could not buy a three. Wine and Gold are down 14 going into the fourth quarter.
END 3Q: Pistons 84, Cavs 70
DET: Cunningham 19p, 6a, 1r. Reed 12p, 5r, 1a, blk. Thompson 10p, 8r, 4a, 4stl, blk. Robinson 11p, 2r, 2a. Duren 9p, 7r, 2blk.
CLE: Harden 15p, 6r, 3a, 3stl. Mitchell 13p, 3r, 2a, stl. Mobley 12p, 6r, 2a, 2stl, blk. Allen 11p, 7r, 1a, blk, stl. Merrill 10p, 1r, 1a.
FOURTH QUARTER
Cavs seeing each member of the former Houston Cougars backcourt in both rounds of the NBA playoffs and not having fun.
Even with all of these hustle plays, the Cavs are failing to put the ball in the hole. Can James Harden and Donovan Mitchell come to the rescue scoring the rock, or is it too late? It's 100-85 Pistons with 6:07 remaining. Air's been taken out of the building.
