Great to have Koby Altman and Kenny Atkinson back with the media as the team prepares to open camp. Media Day is officially next Monday down at the arena.

Here are some of the highlights of what they had to say:

Kenny said he feels like they’ll make some tweaks to how they play, but they’re pretty confident in their general approach and they love the chemistry this team has in place.

Koby is more excited about their internal growth than anything the front office did in the off-season.

Koby raved about how Evan Mobley treated the last few months. They have

As it relates to Darius’ Garland’s injury, Koby said he’s in a great place mentally and he focused really hard on getting stronger this offseason since his basketball activities were so limited. The biggest thing they need to do is get his conditioning ramped up.

Max Strus is going to miss a few months with his broken foot, but Koby feels they have enough talent and depth on the roster to get through it and he pointed to not having him on the floor at the beginning of last year.

Kenny was so excited to hear Larry Nance Jr. is coming back to Cleveland. He called it a coup that the front office convinced him to come back because he had lots of really good options. He also thought it was a phenomenal pickup to bring Lonzo Ball to town, saying he really feels those two additions will elevate this roster to another level.

Koby encouraged everyone not to take this run or this group for granted. They have urgency in everything they do and they’re always trying to improve on the margins to keep winning. But he pointed out that they have the 3rd best record in the league over the last 3 years and they have done a tremendous job of developing talent. They feel really good about their chances to compete for a championship.

Koby said Donovan Mitchell is in mid season form right now and they’re trying to hold him back from himself, referencing just how hard he’s been working. They need him to peak in the postseason. But it speaks to the broader point of how the combination of this team’s work ethic and the scars they have acquired are driving their work in a unique way.
