The Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors are set to clash in Game 5 at Rocket Arena! I'll be live updating this page throughout the game. Please comment with your thoughts throughout.
Game 5 Starters:
Raptors - Walter, Barrett, Ingram, Barnes, Poeltl
Cavs - Harden, Mitchell, Strus, Mobley, Allen
FIRST QUARTER
Raptors open up with a 16-10 lead in the first four minutes. Already much more of an overall flow to this game than last Sunday. Cavs have already turned it over three times for seven Toronto points. Scottie Barnes has been incredible on defense.
Two fouls on Evan Mobley now less than five minutes in. Less than ideal. Kenny Atkinson keeping him in until his usual sub pattern.
Raptors are believing. You can just tell. The extension of the pressure, attacking the rack. They know the position they're in. Cavs can't mess around here.
Sam Merrill breaks the ice, it seems, after Toronto was ALL OVER the Cavs defensively. What a shot over CMB. He found JA on the entry, too. Raptors up 22-17 with five minutes left in the opening frame.
The Merrill-Wade duo injected some big-time energy into the group. James Harden has been aggressive as heck with this unit.
Donovan Mitchell is having a bear of a time trying to read or get anything remotely resembling an offensive possession going against these Raptors.
Mobley's played a clean quarter since those first two fouls.
END 1Q: Cavs 38, Raptors 34
TOR: Barnes 8p, 5a, 2blk, 1r, stl. Walter 6p, 2r, 1a, stl. Barrett 5p, 4r, 2a.
CLE: Harden 14p, 3r, 2a, stl. Mobley 5p, 3r, stl. Mitchell 6p. Merrill 5p, 1a.
SECOND QUARTER
First Thomas Bryant sighting in the playoffs! It's Schroder-Mitchell-Tyson-Mobley-Bryant out there to start the quarter.
Raptors begin with a `12-6 run. Barnes has been phenomenal and Barrett has been steady. Jakob Poeltl is finding the crevices in the paint with so much attention on the others. Nice touch around the rim. Toronto back on top 46-44.
Evan Mobley's been in drive-and-get-to-the-line mode. He and James Harden talked about advantage basketball at practice. Both have four free-throw attempts each. Cavs up 52-49 five minutes into the second.
Barnes is getting to his favorite spot in the key and making every mid-ranger over contested arms no matter who it's been. Impressive job. Cavs have to somehow get him away from that middle area.
Raptors cash in on Barrett's triple after an offensive board, then get two steals in a blink of an eye for easy buckets the other way. It's starting to get chippy now. Toronto up 62-56 with 4:10 left until halftime.
This game is the actual polar opposite of Sunday. It feels like these teams could hit that final score by halftime. Lol.
Ja'Kobe Walter went 0-for-8 on Sunday from long distance, and tonight, he can't miss. That is why you trust your work.
I do not know why Don is playing this tense. Credit the Raptors for getting him to react this way. He'll need to be much better in the second half.
HALF: Raptors 74, Cavs 67
TOR: Walter 17p, 3stl, 2r, 1a. Barnes 14p, 8a, 2r, 2blk. Barrett 13p, 6r, 3a. Poeltl 10p, 3r, 1a, blk. Shead 10p, 5a.
CLE: Harden 19p, 4r, 3a, stl. Mitchell 11p, 2r. Mobley 7p, 4r, 2blk, 1a. Wade 7p, 1r, stl. Tyson 5p, 2a.
THIRD QUARTER
Cavs better LET EM **C**** KNOW in this half of basketball, or the energy is gonna get awkward fast.
Toronto opened with a 5-0 run out of the locker room, then Donovan Mitchell drove left for a dunk and got to the hole. Harden and Barnes got in a shoving match during a jump ball. Cavs showing some resiliency here. Raptors up 79-75.
Harden and Mitchell are definitely finding the bigs. Mobley's basically lived in the dunker and at the line. Allen had a nice lefty hook and early seal on Barrett. But Raptors just fending off Cleveland any time it trims their lead. Toronto up 89-80 five minutes into the third.
By the way, the Raptors have TWENTY EIGHT points off 12 Cavs turnovers. We're barely into the second half.
Mitchell just made a really tough layup in traffic on the fast break after he stole the ball. Trying to get the crowd pumped. The decibels are starting to increase here at Rocket Arena. Tensions are building with Toronto, who is up 92-90.
Raptors have had an answer for it all to this point.
Cavs closed a quarter for the first time in some time. That was a surge of Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley. Three-point game heading into the fourth.
END 3Q: Raptors 103, Cavs 100
TOR: Barrett 22p, 7r, 4a. Barnes 17p, 9a, 4r, 3blk, stl. Walter 17p, 4stl, 2r. Poeltl 14p, 7r, blk. Shead 15p, 7a, 2stl, 1r.
CLE: Harden 22p, 6r, 4a, stl. Mobley 17p, 6r, 2blk, 1a, stl. Mitchell 19p, 3a, 2r, stl. Merrill 9p, 2r, 2a.
FOURTH QUARTER
Cavs start the final frame with a vengeance. An 8-0 run with Schroder-Mitchell-Harden-Tyson-Mobley. Ballsy stepback from JT to get it going.
These are some big-time shots down the stretch here. Evan Mobley's stepping in confidently. Dennis Schroder's got a quiet 12 with his scoop lays. RJ Barrett is getting to the line every time down it seems, though, even with Cavs forcing him right. Cleveland up 113-111 with 6:19 left.
Schroder's got nine in the quarter and his jumper has been on all evening. How about 17 for the German vet off the pine. Raptors adjusted to his drives, and he went to a short middie and then his third three of the night from the left wing. Cavs up 118-111.
Jarrett Allen hasn't had the most prolific offensive night, but his weak side blocks and rejections in general tonight have been LOUD.
These guys revert to bad iso habits way too easily.
Cavs up 125-120 with 18.0 seconds left. Lot of time before we're calling this one.
