This offseason, free agent forward Rui Hachimura signed a 2-year, $28 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. Hachimura spent the last three and a half seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, but now he is jumping ship close by. 

Last season, Rui Hachimura averaged 11.5 points per game, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists. Hachimura was used more for his spacing, and a lot of his work came off the ball. He played the role well, shooting 44 percent from downtown. 

Hachimura recently spoke about his time with the Lakers and how the coaching staff's approach towards him changed as his tenure progressed. He was glad to make the switch from the Lakers to the Clippers because he's glad he's joining a coaching staff that has belief in him. 

He mentioned the Clippers want him to continue to shoot the ball from three, but also make his cuts to the basket and be more active off the ball. 

"In my final year with the Lakers, I couldn't really do those cuts due to our team situation," Hachimura said. "So they told me to do more of that, which makes me really happy."

Hachimura doesn't believe he's a one-dimensional player, as he believes he can provide for the Clippers in a variety of ways. 

Rui Hachimura is coming to a Clippers team that's going through some turnover after trading away Kawhi Leonard. In that trade with the Toronto Raptors, they got back Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick. 

Because of the trade, Hachimura could be slated to start for Los Angeles, depending on how training camp and preseason go for him. He could be playing with Darius Garland as his point guard next season, a player known for his playmaking skills. 

If this Clippers team can find its footing early in the season, Hachimura could find himself playing a consistent role that allows him to succeed. He is looking to be more than a spot-up shooter this season, and the Clippers will be in need of someone who can be a difference maker, especially on the wing. 

Rui mentioned he was one of the players Luka Doncic told the Lakers front office he wanted to keep, and this season, he could be in a position to prove them wrong by not keeping him. Hachimura is 28, and he has an opportunity to get a bigger contract if he becomes one of the most valuable Clippers players this season.
