The 1990s debate isn’t going anywhere — hand-checking, packed paint, bruising big men, defined roles.
When asked which current players could have been elite in that era, Jaylen Wells didn’t hesitate.
He named LeBron James.
Then he added a Grizzlies twist.
Zach Edey.
Wells said Edey would be “down there battling with some of the greatest centers,” calling him “kind of unstoppable.”
Considering Edey is shooting 63.3% from the field in just his second NBA season and doing most of his work on the block, it’s not hard to see the logic. The ‘90s didn’t demand floor-spacing bigs. It demanded size, touch and physicality.
So here’s the real question:
If you dropped today’s Zach Edey into 1996, is he a 20-and-10 guy? An All-Star? Or even more?
Curious where Grizzlies fans land on this one.
