One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Atlanta Hawks this season has been their woes at home. The Hawks are just 10-15 at State Farm Arena this season.
However, after Atlanta's win over the Philadelphia 76ers to open the back half of its schedule, the Hawks will not enjoy the luxury of returning home.
10 of the Hawks' 11 upcoming games will be played at their home venue, including two five-game home stands.
Sitting at 27-30, and ninth in the Eastern Conference, if the Hawks can even things out at State Farm Arena, they will put themselves in a good position to make a final push at a better play-in seed.
And it starts on Friday night with a big home game against the Miami Heat, who are the current eighth seed in the East, sitting at 29-27.
The play-in race in the East is tight, but if the Hawks can, let's say, just win seven of their next 11 games, that would put them right back at the .500 plateau.
The other facet of the Hawks playing in all these home games is the opponents on their schedule. Over the next 11 games, Atlanta will play the Washington Wizards (x2), Brooklyn Nets (x2), and Milwaukee Bucks (x2). That's three teams in the East that are all below Atlanta in the standings, and Brooklyn and Washington have no real incentive to win.
So, can the Hawks put together a little winning streak (at home) in the coming weeks to make things really interesting in the final month of the season?
Only time will tell, but it's clear the Hawks are at full strength at the moment post-All-Star break.
Behind Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and CJ McCollum, all of whom have been leading the charge for the Hawks, Atlanta might emerge as the top play-in team when all is said and done.
