Kuminga is happy in Atlanta, and it shows.

ESPN’s Anthony Slater said this week that Jonathan Kuminga is genuinely happy with the Hawks: he likes the youth, the pace, and how simplified the offense is so he can just hoop instead of thinking through five reads every possession. Coming from someone who watched his whole Warriors arc up close, that says a lot.

You can see why the change of scenery matters. Golden State had worn on him for years—he and Steve Kerr never really aligned on his role, he was in and out of the rotation, and there was never a clear long-term plan for him. By the time he re-signed, it was basically a setup for a trade. He was mentally out.

Now he finally gets that reset. After the knee issue and the All-Star break delay, he comes in and drops 27 on Washington and, more importantly, looks free and energized. The body language, the pace he’s playing with, the way he’s attacking without hesitation—it’s a different version of Kuminga.

Yes, it’s still the honeymoon phase, and the sample is tiny. But the Hawks are 2-0 with him, the young core fits his style, and the simplified offense is clearly helping him just play instead of overthinking.

What do you think:Is Kuminga a long-term piece for Atlanta’s core, or is this more of a “see how it goes, then decide” situation? Drop your take below.
