The Atlanta Hawks dropped their MLK Day game to the Milwaukee Bucks 112-110 after CJ McCollum missed a last-second shot as 0.00s were on the clock to potentially tie the game at 112. But instead, the Hawks lost their fourth straight game, and are now 20-25 on the season.
What can be contributed to this losing stretch?
Nickeil Alexander-Walker was the main reason Atlanta even had a chance on Monday afternoon, as he hit five three-pointers in the fourth quarter. Alexander-Walker put up 32 points on Monday, and Jalen Johnson added 25+ and 16 rebounds.
Considering the Hawks' trade of Trae Young hasn't worked out in Atlanta's favor to this point, Hawks' coach Quin Snyder needs to be further evaluated. This is now several years in a row where the Hawks are fighting for a top-six seed and continue to fall into play-in range. They are now in real jeopardy of not being in a play-in spot altogether if they don't pick up wins soon.
The Hawks are 7-13 at State Farm Arena, which is alarming to play much worse at home than on the road.
With Zaccharie Risacher and Kristaps Porzingis missing the next week at least with injuries, Atlanta will rely heavily on Jalen Johnson and Alexander-Walker to keep putting the team on their back.
As the trade deadline and All-Star break near, the Hawks need to seriously further assess their roster and figure out a plan to take them into the final two months of the season.
