Sunday evening the Miami HEAT challenged the Basketball Pistons of Detroit in the 305. The Detroit Pistons happen to be the 1st place team in the eastern conference. The question was will they be motivated to play Miami on daylight savings time change. This matchup is usually a physical battle & exciting to watch. The HEAT were on a 4 game win streak coming into this game. Miami played short handed without Andrew Wiggins, Norman Powell, Simone Fontecchio & Niko Jovic.
Rolling with the same 5. Sunday hoops 🔜The first quarter started with both teams not shooting very well. Then, Miami jumped out to an early lead capitalizing on pistons misfiring. The HEAT offense was activated by Myron Gardner & his relentless energy.
The rebound battle between Bam Adebayo & Jalen Duren began early as both centers came out grabbing boards. Bam Adebayo was pacing the HEAT on offense early, taking advantage of paint touches.
Miami was playing aggressively out on the fast break, getting to the basket quickly. The HEAT took advantage of Detroit turnovers & made them pay over the top in transition.
Ira Winderman tweeted, “Pistons played at home last night, flew from Detroit, lost an hour as we sprung ahead and now playing a 6 p.m. start . . . and looking like it at the outset.”
Miami was in control the whole quarter making easy work of the Pistons on both ends of the court.
Five Reasons Sports tweeted, “This has been a really good week for Davion Mitchell and Jaime Jaquez Jr.” In my opinion those guys brought a lot of hustle early on with defense, playmaking and were bucket getters for the HEAT on straight line drives.
The HEAT were really aggressive on offense & defense, making winning plays all over the court as they turned up their defensive intensity.
Couper Moorhead said on X, “Detroit's 16 points is their season low for any 1st, 2nd or 3rd Quarter.”
It was Heat 34, Pistons 16 after one. Adebayo had 9 points for the Heat. Detroit Pistons shot 1 of 9 on 3s.
In the second quarter the Pistons tried to pick up their offensive pace through a few defensive stops. They got some decent shooting from Cade Cunningham in their attempt to get back in the game on a little run but Miami pushed it back up to a 15 point lead relatively easily.
The Miami HEAT intangibles were on full display as the X factor that fueled the HEAT’s success against Detroit in the 1st half.
When the HEAT play this good it’s great for everyone. Miami looked super confident & they were just outplaying Detroit in every phase of the game. That made it easy for guys like Tyler Herro to drain 3s as the HEAT pushed it to a 23 point lead.
Couper Moorhead stated on X, “While we should acknowledge Detroit's brutal bit of scheduling that they are dealing with, the Heat are completely outplaying them in almost every aspect of the game.”
The Heat went up 25 in the second period, & took a 67-48 lead into halftime on Pistons. Tyler Herro had 16 points for Miami.
In the third quarter the HEAT kept the pedal to the metal as they expanded their lead to 27 points. Detroit stopped competing way before the 2nd half as it just kept getting worse & worse for the Pistons.
Miami was up 27 in third, & had a 103-80 lead going into the fourth quarter. Herro paced the way with 25 points & Adebayo has 22.
In the 4th period the HEAT pushed the lead to 29 as the Pistons good offensive looks diminished even more. The HEAT were disruptive on defense daring Detroit to make long shots.
Bam Adebayo reached a new milestone.
Congrats, Bam!Five Reasons Sports said on X, “The Miami Heat, for the moment, are now the 6th seed in the East. 5 straight wins. Wizards and Bucks next.”
