Thursday night the Miami HEAT were in Chicago to play the Bulls. Miami & Chicago are only separated by 3 games in the run to the Eastern Conference Play In. Miami is currently in 7th place & Chicago is in 10th place in the East.
Imagine: Your 5️⃣ for tonightShortly after 8 pm when the game should have tipped off; Ira Winderman tweeted, “Heat game here in Chicago now in a delay due to court conditions, with pelting rain here today in Chicago.”
A few moments later the Miami HEAT said on X, “Ever heard of a melting court before? 🤔.”
As everyone waited early, it was up to everyone to fill their own time until tip off was supposed to happen any minute. NBA TV filled in perfectly at that point of the night.
The narrative early was that both teams would play competitively against each other & everyone from both teams & all of the fans were getting restless without any mention of what was really happening. Ira Winderman had the scoop.
Still early, HEAT players & coaches even decided to help expedite the process & try to dry the court.
After 20 or 30 minute delay & no sign of tip off, Tyler Herro & Chicago Bulls Mascot Benny the Bull put on a quick show of skill.
Ira Winderman was on point with the updates on X.
The delay continued & HEAT players shot from where they shoot in the game, from the bench.
After 45 minutes to an hour of delay, both teams went back to their locker rooms.
People were asking Ira Winderman on X, “How long until the game has to be postponed?” Nobody really knew but kept waiting in hope to play basketball. Then both teams came back out.
Aja Wilson was in attendance to support Bam Adebayo & she knew what to do.
People were entertained with all this garbage time & stayed even as the clock kept ticking later into the night.
Ira Winderman kept firing updates on X, “The next announcement on the status of the game now will come at 9:30 p.m. Eastern. Not the start, just the next announcement.”
Winderman updates, “Heat players back to court. Bulls players coming out now. But mops and wet towels still on court. The Heat's front office representative at tonight's game is Adam Simon.”
This was now an hour & a half past tip off time & still no basketball for anyone. Ira says, “Spoelstra and Donovan now talking at center court, I'm assuming about playing with running clock.”
Ira Winderman gives more insight on social media app-X, “Considering how much players stretch and receive pregame treatment, and considering we're looking at two-hour delay, not sure how either team would allow a game at this point. These players literally were loosening on training table hours ago.”
We were getting almost minute by minute updates by this point & Winderman tweets, “Many, many more officials now congregating at scorers' table.”
Ira Winderman was putting in work as he live tweets, “Heat now back to locker room. That could be it.”
Without knowing what was really going on & why the game still hadn’t started after 2 hours of delay; Five Reasons Sports Tweets,
“The game between the Heat and Bulls appears to have been postponed. Neither team plays tomorrow. So maybe that's possible.”
To finish the night Ira Winderman closed with his thoughts on X, “Looking at schedules, the most logical makeup date for Heat at Bulls would be Feb. 12, the Thursday before the All-Star break, with both teams idle that day. The Bulls play the night before in Boston, the Heat the night before in New Orleans.”
And he quote tweeted that last tweet with, “NBA does have 3 games on that Thursday, with union approval needed because it would cut short respective All-Star breaks. But it would seem a common-sense solution, since it would be second night of back-to-back for both teams, with travel for each, to be followed by long break.”
