Ken Blaze-Imagn ImagesWith Daniel Gafford out, Jason Kidd started P.J. Washington at center Sunday in Cleveland and it worked really well. Washington finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 steals, joining Mark Aguirre and Roy Tarpley as the only players in Mavericks history to put up those numbers in a game. The small-ball lineup helped Dallas play faster, get up more 3-pointers, and created matchup problems Cleveland couldn’t solve, and helped give Dallas a 130-120 road win. “I think I’m a mismatch,” Washington said regarding playing center. “Me at the five popping opened up a lot of space on the floor for us.” Kidd said he wants to build on what this lineup combination showed. “Understanding that small-ball lineup was really good, and hopefully we can build on this,” he said. Washington has played small ball center throughout his NBA career when asked, so it’s not brand new. But with this particular team, did the Mavericks find something worth keeping?
