Two weeks ago, Jaren Jackson Jr. to Detroit trade rumors began to float around, and the Memphis Grizzlies have continued to flounder since that time, now on the brink of blowing the whole organization up. Ja Morant has been a distraction lately, and it's unclear what the long-term direction for the Grizzlies is going to be.
If Memphis is looking to recoup some assets for the future as they start over, Jaren Jackson Jr. is a player that's flooded NBA discourse today with a potential trade to the Detroit Pistons. Jackson, who went to college at Michigan State, would give the Pistons another big man to use in the rotation in case anything happens to Jalen Duren or Isaiah Stewart down the road, but does he fit with Detroit's style of play?
Jackson is not nearly as effective on the glass as he should be for a big man of his size, averaging just 5.5 rebounds per game over the course of his career.
On the surface, Jackson would be an expensive pickup that the Pistons might have to shoehorn in the lineup, but he can hit shots from behind the arc at a 35% clip, which is a valuable quality in a big man.
Does this potential trade move the needle for you if it costs the Pistons less than 2 first round draft picks? That's where I'm at right now as anything more than one first rounder would be an overpayment. It's difficult to speculate how much JJJ would cost without actually being inside the room for those discussions, but the Pistons would likely be required to part with either an expiring contract (Tobias Harris), a developing young talent (Ron Holland) or both to make the deal worthwhile for both organizations.
