Last night, there is no debate that Victor Wembanyama thoroughly dominated the Pistons in the paint with 38 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks, but the 7-4 mismatch nightmare was equally successful at duping Detroit into foul trouble. Wemby coaxed Jalen Duren into picking up four personal fouls early in the second quarter, and JD's fifth foul came quickly after halftime to neutralize the All-Star's impact on the game. Unfortunately for Detroit, Duren wasn't the only player who fell for Wemby's tricks considering they were deployed early and often.
Later on, Wemby elevated with the ball, which caused contact with Ron Hollands face, and the second-year Pistons forward was called for a foul on the play. Immediately after the whistle, Holland walked to the bench in pain and never returned as a result of what Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff called blurred vision after the game.
After the game wrapped up, B-Ball Paul himself took to social media to share his thoughts about how Wemby initiated contact with the intent to draw fouls left and right on Thursday night.
You can watch the videos for yourself and judge whether Wemby was in fact foul-baiting or not.
